Dear TICA Members,

 

I am most honored to have been elected president of the association and shall do my utmost to maintain TICA's recognition as a well respected professional association of the tourism industry. Thank you for your confidence, and for your team collaboration I hope to receive.

 

An association is as strong as its members want it to be, and I invite participation from all, by ways of commenting, suggesting and volunteering. Our Marketing, Membership & PR and Services Development committees are very enthusiastic in pursuing projects and working towards our mutual goals.

   

During my 2-year term, I hope to work with members and allied organizations to enhance business, elevate service capabilities, and build sustainability of TICA as a valued authority of the M.I.C.E. industry. I strongly believe that TICA is an assembly of highly capable and experienced professionals, and hope to draw upon this advantage for the development of our association.

TICA Gets First President from Private Sector

 

TICA has elected its first President from the Thai private sector. Khun Sumate Sudasna, Managing Director of Creative Destination Management (CDM), was elected unanimously by TICA’s 40-member board of directors at its first annual meeting on 08 April 2009.

 

Since its formation in 1984, the presidency of TICA, has been traditionally held by the governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand. In a brief statement following his election, Khun Sumate noted that his priority agenda during his two-year tenure would be to rally everyone in the industry to restore confidence in the Thai MICE sector.

 

He said, “These are trying times for Thai travel & tourism which is facing the twin challenges of both local and global upheaval. We are going to have to deal with this as best as we can. No-one can afford a long and drawn-out downturn in business.”

 

Khun Sumate entered the Thai travel industry in 1974 and has been specifically involved for 25 years in the M.I.C.E. sector. He set up CDM Thailand, a destination management company and professional convention organiser, in 1988, and has served TICA in various positions since its founding.

 

Khun Sumate has also headed the Society of Incentive and Travel Executives Thailand chapter.  He was named World Incentive Travel Personality for Asia by the organisers of EIBTM and IT&ME in 1993 and was nominated SITE Member of the Year in 1995.

 

He said, “I plan to be a hands-on president and truly represent all of TICA’s 281 members. I am sure they will respond with the same professionalism and enthusiasm that has helped Thailand maintain its competitive edge in the MICE sector over the years.”

 

Khun Sumate said he would also seek to:

·   Focus TICA’s efforts in developing business from domestic sources, i.e. local corporations for events in Thailand and professional associations as well as government departments with potential to host international meeting events

·  Enhance efforts on buyer relationship development

·  Work closely with both the TAT and the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau on trade shows, road shows and other promotional activities

·  Work with other Thai trade and industry bodies on business and service capacity development opportunities.

 

As part of his first initiatives a TICA President, Khun Sumate “Met the Press” at an informal press-meet session held on Wednesday, 29 April 2009 at the InterContinental Hotel.

TICA Bids Farewell to Khun Phornsiri Manoharn

 

 

Members of TICA Outgoing Board Members bid a fond farewell to Khun Phornsiri Manoharn, former TAT Governor and TICA President (2007-2009), with a bouquet of flowers at the BOD Meeting on 26 March 2009 prior to the Annual General Meeting on the same day.

 

Khun Phornsiri thanked BOD Members for the support provided to her during her 2-year tenure stating that the private sectors’ support to the TAT’s various marketing schemes helped boost the country’s tourism which was a key factor to the NTO’s success.

 

She wished TICA every success in its future endeavours and maintained that the TAT shall remain part of the association’s various activities in the years to come, being the big brother of the industry and a co-founder of the association along with Thai Airways International.

 

On retiring from the TAT, Khun Phornsiri will be moving on to serve the travel industry on a global basis as Chairman Elect of the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) at the Operational Headquarters located at Siam Tower in Bangkok.

Be Inspired in Korat

Domestic Corporate Familiarisation Trip

TICA, in close co-operation with TCEB, led a total of 28 local corporate executives on a Familiarisation Trip to Korat under the theme, “Be Inspired in Korat”.

Among the trip’s highlights were a pottery making session at Dan Kwian; wine making at the PB Valley Winery, an overnight stay in the Cowboy Town of Panther Creek Resort, team building activities at the Greenery Resort and a Golf Clinic at Kirimaya Golf Resort & Spa Khao Yai.

The famtrip was accompanied by a workshop session for the invited buyers, led by Khun Prachoom Chayabongse, Services Development Committee Chairperson, titled “How to Create a Wow” and a presentation of attractions within the area by the TAT Regional Director.

 

The buyers were also given the opportunity to meet 34 TICA member organisations at the “Table Top Exhibition” conducted at Kirimaya, which included a short workshop for participating exhibitors titled, “Meeting the Challenge in an Economic Downturn” attended by 30 participants.

TCEB-TICA Press Conference on “Stimulating the Local M&I Markets”

In conjunction with the Domestic Corporate Executives Familiarisation Trip in Korat, TICA joined TCEB in a press conference announcing the launch of the Bureau’s campaign to “Stimulate the Local Meetings & Incentives Markets”, which includes Organisation Training, that will incorporates working closely with the association.

 

The Korat Trip is the first of a total 8 famtrips that will be organized in joint co-operation with TCEB and TICA.

 

TCEB was represented by Khun Chiruit Isarangkun Na Ayuthaya (pictured left), Director of Government & Corporate Affairs while TICA was represented by Khun Prachoom Chayabongse, Chairman of TICA’s Services Development Committee (right).

Cholakanta Boobphaves, Chairman led the management of N.C.C. Management & Development Co., Ltd., the management of the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center , continued a great Songkran (Thai New Year) tradition when NCC staff offered seasonal blessings to the management.
