some time which has inevitably affected tourism. In light of this we would
like you to view the current situation with optimism and hope for the best.
Concerned authorities have been making all possible efforts to present
actual facts that it is safe to travel in most parts of the country. Members who receive inquiries on the situation have

Domestic Incentives and Corporate Meetings
Familiarisation Visit
Suphanburi-Uthai Thani: 25-27 July 2008

TICA in collaboration with TCEB and TAT recently led 20 corporate executives from
multinational companies on a trip to Suphanburi and Uthaithani during
25-27July 2008 as part of the
Domestic Incentive and Corporate Meeting Organiser Familiarisation project
with accommodations hosted by Iyara Park & Resort. The trip was led by 3 of TICA’s Executive Committee
members namely, Khun
Opas Netra-Umpai, TICA Third Vice President, Khun
The objective of the TICA Famtrips are to promote local
destinations for incentive travel rewards and to highlight that destinations
in The famtrip included a table top session at Iyara Park & Resort where invited buyers had the
opportunity to meet 21
service exhibitors from within the Uthai Thani area as well as 9 TICA member organisations. As a value-add to exhibitors, a short training programme, “Available Market Segments and
How To Capture Them” was
also conducted by TICA
Services Development Committee Chairperson, Khun Prachoom. A Welcome Dinner on 25 July 2008 was co-hosted by the Tourism Authority of Thailand as well as TCEB which included a short
pre-dinner presentation on the various attractions in Uthai Thani. Khun Prachoom presented ideas on “How to Create a Wow” with the invited corporate executives as well as conducted an
interactive session where these MICE organisers shared stories on their
organisational experience among their peers. The invited buyers were unanimous in their comments that the
trip was highly productive and a wonderful surprise as to the number of
activities and attractions available in Uthai Thani. Most of the buyers have
previously organised trips and/or meetings to the province but were not able
to put together a fun or attractive itinerary due to their personal lack of
knowledge of the area. In addition, they commended TICA, the local TAT Office and

on “Buyer’s Expectation
from Trade Show Roads and Road Shows”. The main lessons being, limit the
chit chat to a minimum and go directly into how you, the supplier, can
service the buyer. “Time is limited at trade shows/road shows and the
nature of the Thai sales staff is just a bit too chatty. A short concise
presentation is all that required. As buyers, we need to know immediately
what you can give us. We are very objective and will tell you just as
immediately whether you can meet our needs or are suitable for us. And most
importantly, never over promise or over sell. It just leaves a bad taste and

The seminar
which targeted middle-level sales personnel is aimed at giving
“green” travel industry personnel a broad picture on the type of
research and preparation required before going on a trip overseas to meet
buyers be it at trade shows or road shows. Among its
other key highlights are also how to analyse buyers’ profile
through their catalogues and identifying the right buyers for the
right product/services. |

Khun
Prachoom’s intensive course also included a quick lesson on dress
etiquette at trade shows and road shows and further added that networking at
social functions are a great way to meet buyers you were not able to schedule
a meeting with. Khun
Pornthip also commented that trade shows are not only to sell your
products/services, but also a great way to gain “industry
intelligence” by networking with everybody present. A key lesson which
Khun Ponthip stressed was, “Never speak about your competition negatively, it
doesn’t help sell your product. And even worse, it creates a bad
impression to the buyer.” According to Khun Pornthip,
if
worded correctly, you can actually check-up on your competitor’s
performance. Further to
this Khun Jantarat spoke on the type of support provided by THAI that could
be incorporated into the sales pitch as a value add and further added that
being the national carrier, TG is always open to working with any and all suppliers to
develop attractive sale packages. |

presented TCEB’s sales and marketing activities to the participants for
them to keep in mind and include within their sales pitch to buyers. All participants
felt deeply honoured that such senior level members of the MICE industry
took time off their busy schedule to put together the seminar and were asking

for site inspection during 11-15 July

in Baiersbronn, a little Thai spice. Degan Septodji Suprijadi, Executive

Magic” showcase as part of a cultural exchange. The team
from Banyan Tree Bangkok included chefs from the signature restaurant Saffron, who
demonstrated the art of preparing Thai delicacies, including healthy spa
cuisine. Guests of the property, in the German Black Forest, were also wowed
by the creation of intricate fruit carvings. In addition, therapists from the
