Message from the Executive Committee

 

Thank you to all members for attending the TICA Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 31 March 2010. We appreciate you giving us some of your precious time from work to attend our most important meeting of the year where we update you on the association’s activities as well as vote on membership related issues.

 

As reported at the AGM, TICA’s President, has been appointed as Chairman of TCEB’s Strategic and Planning Sub-committee which is in charge of putting together the Bureau’s marketing plans and strategies for Thailand. This is a good step forward for both TCEB and TICA to help formulate plans that help compliment and elevate Thailand’s MICE industry to greater heights.

 

As you have heard and read from TICA’s 2009 Annual Report, we have been extremely active in 2009 and with the recent placement of TICA’s President to TCEB’s Strategic and Planning Sub-committee, the industry shall be well represented in the overall planning and policy establishment, for sustainable and meaningful progress.

 

The Executive Committee is upbeat with the prospects of working even closer together with TCEB and we are confident that we will be able to bring Thailand back to the forefront of the MICE world, as well as helping with the recovery of the country’s image through the strong industry bond within TICA’s fellow members.

TICA Annual General Meeting

31 March 2010: The Imperial Queen’s Park Hotel

 

 

 

The TICA Annual General Meeting conducted on 31 March 2010 at the Imperial Queen’s Park Hotel was attended by a total of 104 TICA members.

 

TICA 2009 activities were reported at the AGM by its relevant Committee Chairpersons and members of the Executive Committee.

 

The full report on TICA’s various activities can be found in the 2009 TICA Annual Report circulated to registered members prior to the actual AGM in March.

“Sales Techniques for the Conferences, Corporate Meetings and Incentives (CMI) Markets”

Be sure to sign up for the upcoming TICA Training Seminar by Khun Eunice Gan entitled, Sales Techniques for the Conferences, Corporate Meetings and Incentives (CMI) Markets” at the Amari Orchid, Pattaya from 20 - 21 May 2010.

 

The seminar will focus on teaching best practices of sales techniques and group work assignments to sharpen their creative thinking, marketing and project management skills. The course is tailor made for teams who are new to selling their products and services to the conference, meetings and incentives markets, in both the Thai and overseas markets and is ideal for sales personnel from hotels, convention centres, destination management companies, event management companies and other major suppliers to the CMI events markets. This programme will be conducted in Thai with Power Points and handouts in English.

 

Participation requirement: Minimum 6 months to 1 year of experience in sales within the MICE industry

TICA Activities Report

 

TCEB-TICA Domestic Corporate Familiarisation Trips

 

 

The famtrip project is a joint collaboration between TCEB and TICA, under the auspices of TICA’s Marketing Committee. These trips also receive support and co-ordination with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) who brief invited buyers on the various attractions and activities feasible within the area. The TAT also helps recruit local suppliers to exhibit at the Table Top Sales Exhibition.

 

Udon Thani – Nong Khai: 19 - 21 March 2010

 

TICA and TCEB took a group of 19 invited buyers, who consisted of buyers from government agencies and corporate buyers, as well as 7 publications on a 3-day trip to the Northeast of Thailand for a familiarisation of the potentials of Udon Thani and Nong Khai as a MICE destination.

 

No doubt, most buyers find Northeastern Thailand a mystery when it comes to organising Meetings & Incentives. The trip was a definite eye opener as to the possibilities for M&I in the Esarn region where the group of 26 guests were surprised by the range of activities that can be created in this far-off region of the Kingdom.

 

An Amazing Race style of team building activities gave participants the opportunity to experience culture and history of Udon Thani within half a day, which got the adrenalin pumping for all involved; participants got to go through 6 main attractions of the city within the flash of the morning. The Amazing Race of course had a little local flair, participants zipped around town on-board the Skylab; Udonthani’s version of tuk-tuk’s.

 

The trip also included some breathtaking breaks, case in point, the stop at Pha Sadet (ผาเสด็จ). Our guests were also charmed and overwhelmed by the Jungle Trek of the Phu Pi Pob – Phu Pak Paen Community Forest (ป่าชุมชนภูผีปอบ-ภูปักแป้น) which was led by villagers and “young local guides”; local children who have trained themselves to guide tourists and also help protect the forest within the community.

 

The CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) activity for this trip was building water dykes at Moo Ban Wang Nam Mok (หมู่บ้านน้ำหมอก) followed by a charming Bai Sri ceremony and a down-to-earth dinner within the village, joined by the locals who also provided traditional folk entertainment and dances. Also at Ban Wang Nam Mok, participants were able to experience handmade fabric weaving –  Ban Wang Nam Mok is also known as the OTOP village for handmade fabrics.

 

The Udon Thani – Nong Khai itinerary was filled with a wonderful array of Esan tradition, culture, history and reverence to local temples within the area due to their firm respect for religion, as well as site visits to hotels within both cities. Indeed a memorable trip for all!

 

Also included in the trip was a Table Top Sales Exhibition where buyers met 1 TICA member within the area, as well as 16 local suppliers within the area.

 

Brainstorming was also conducted where invited buyers participated in a lively and highly inter-active experience sharing session. This exotic Northeastern trip was conducted by NS Travel & Tours.

Chiangmai – Chiangrai: 26 – 28 March 2010

 

Indeed an impactful and active month, TICA and TCEB took yet another group of invited buyers and members of the press (total of 26 invited guests) to a 3-day trip to Chiangmai – Chiangrai for a reintroduction of this MICE destination, as well as, some new “incentive” ideas for meeting and incentive groups.

 

The trip kicked-off at the Doi Tung Development Project in Chiangrai with visits to the Hand Woven Fabric Factory, Sa Paper (handmade paper) Factory and Ceramic Production, as well as the Doi Tung Royal Villa and a briefing on the Royal Project at the Hall of Inspiration located within the same area.

 

Participants were then transferred to the boat pier by tri-cycles where they boarded long tail boats on the Kok River to Chiangmai. Enroute, was a stop at the Hill Tribe Village where the group was welcomed by villagers and a troop of elephants, as well as earthy hill tribe performances.

 

Within the itinerary was a visit to the renowned Elephant Nature Park at Mae Taeng District which is a centre established by Khun “Lek” Sangduen Chailert, Thailand’s leading elephant rescue activist. The CSR activity for the trip was conducted here where the buyers contributed medical supplies to the park.

 

The main highlight for this trip was the theme dinner conducted at the romantic Royal Flora Ratchapruek where the park came alive with wonderful stalls of local cuisine and traditional dance troupes performing the graceful traditional dances Northerners are famous for. The impressive Hor Kham Luang Pavilion provided the backdrop to this magical evening which left the group with a memorable impression of the enchanting North.

 

Also included in the trip was a Table Top Sales Exhibition where buyers met 16 TICA members within the area, as well as 15 local suppliers.

 

The ever energetic Khun Prachoom Chayabonges, Chairperson – TICA Marketing Committee, also headed a short seminar for invited buyers entitled, “How to Create a Wow”.

 

Certainly a “Wow” 3-day itinerary, the trip was conducted by Creative Destination Management (CDM).

Conference & Exhibition Management Training Seminar

17-18 March 2010: JW Marriott Bangkok

 

 

 

TICA conducted a 2-day training seminar for PCOs and PEOs during 17-18 March 2010 at the JW Marriott Bangkok which was inaugurated by TICA’s President, Khun Sumate Sudasna.

 

The course was lead by Khun Phenthip Chomprang, Managing Director, EQ Equinoctial Co., Ltd. (a consultancy firm), who is a TICA member and a member of TICA’s Services Development Committee, as well as a team of seasoned Conventions & Exhibitions organisers namely:

• Khun Benjawan Wisootsat, Managing Director - Optimum Group Co., Ltd.

• Khun Eunice Gan, Freelance Consultant & Trainer

• Khun Patitta C. Adinolfi, Asst Director of Marketing - Montien Riverside Hotel

• Khun Perapan Angkhasuko, Senior PCO Manager - NCC Management Co., Ltd.

• Khun Sukumal Phadungsilp, Senior PCO Manager - NCC Management Co., Ltd.

 

The objective of the course was to provide an overall picture of all aspects of PCO and PEO work, both planning and management, as well as marketing and operating conferences and exhibitions – a course for newcomers of the C&E fields who aspire to become Managers in the future.

 

The seminar also covered practical operational aspects of C&E management such as reviewing supplier contracts and how to work with the various types of suppliers such as hotels, travel agents, staging, performance, etc.

 

The course received overwhelming interest from members; participation originally limited to 20 persons had to be expanded to fit all 42 participants from within the TICA family, as well as non-members.

 

The success and popularity of the course was due to the well balanced curriculum with the array of highly experienced professionals within the field.

 

Khun Sumate also conferred certificates to all participants upon their achievement of completing the course. TICA’s training and educational curriculum are put together by the TICA Services Development Committee.
